As West Chester University (WCU) prepares Honor the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by serving our community. We reflect on his actions as we know Dr. King was a leader, but the change he helped create was the result of many people working together. Over the past few years we continue to reflect on his famous words: "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

Though the national holiday is recognized on Monday, January 17th, we have made it a priority to revel and commit to the legacy of Dr. King's life on Friday, January 28, 2022 through the 29TH Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration which provides scholarships and by engaging the community in an annual service project on Thursday, February 24th

The Center for Civic Engagement and Social Impact invites our WCU community members to engage in meaningful service and dialogue in honor of Dr. King by providing donations of service to some of our amazing community partners. Through partnerships with two non-profit organizations by creating personal letters to students with advice, encouragement, and experiences about preparing for, applying to, and attending college and helping clean and sanitize toys and educational supplies. We intend to assist these amazing organizations in their mission and efforts to uplift and support members of the West Chester community. Charles A Melton Arts and Education Center and St. Agnes Day Room both provide support academically and emotionally along with providing basic needs support for youth and their families. These organizations are pivotal to Chester County and how they directly address the needs of the community and we as an intuition will join as our own community to continue to answer Dr.King's famous question, "What are you doing for others?"

On Thursday, February 24th 2022 community members can serve alongside WCU students, faculty and staff from 1:00pm till 4:00pm in Sykes Student Union Ballrooms. During the event, volunteers will view an educational video about Dr. King's legacy of service and representatives from each non-profit agency will address the volunteers to highlight their organizations and their own life's purpose to serve.
