1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Being trans is not a reason for pity, scorn, shame, or apology. This in person keynote with S.Bear Bergman for the 5th Annual Gender Justice Conference celebrates trans bodies, communities, awareness, sex, love, particular talents, successes and self- creation with a faultless logic and good humor that may just make you appreciate transfolks (or being trans) in a whole new way.
Masks are highly encouraged, and Bear has requested that attendees wear masks during his performance. Masks are not only a tool to protect oneself, but to also demonstrate care for immunocompromised folks in our community. We will have masks available at check-in and we encourage those who are able to wear them.
3:00 PM – 3:20 PM
In the photoset “In Training”, artist J Farrington combines inspiration from the work of surrealist Claude Cahun and aesthetics from men’s gym magazines to tell a story of trans expression and joy. Wearing a linocut printed shirt reading “don’t kiss me, I’m in training”, Farrington asserts their autonomy as they explore gender through weightlifting and makeup. This piece captures the experience of conducting “experiments in living” in search of euphoric gender expression. This session will further explore the inspirations and historical context behind their piece.
7:00 PM – 8:15 PM
