Jana Gifford Law is a graduate of West Chester University, where she received her Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice. She began her career as a Social Worker, until hired as a U.S. Probation Officer. Before retiring in May 2024, Jana served the U.S. Probation Office for 31 years and held every position of note in the post-conviction division ranging from drug treatment specialist, supervisor, assistant deputy, and deputy chief. In 2021, Jana was appointed as the Chief U.S. Probation Officer becoming the first female to hold that position in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She was the national point of contact for restorative justice in her district and has extensive knowledge of problem-solving (reentry) courts, workforce development and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) programs. Jana has spoken at various universities and colleges, including a seminar on Women in Criminal Justice and has been a national presenter on reentry issues at venues such as the Department of Justice, National Association of Drug Court Professionals, and the Third Circuit Judicial Conference.
Although retired from federal service, Jana remains actively involved in the corrections field and recently spoke at the United States Sentencing Commission (USSC) in Washington, DC.
In January 2025, Jana became an adjunct professor at West Chester University, where she teaches Drugs, Crime and Justice.
