Minorities in Medicine is starting a mentoring program which is intended for upperclassmen undergraduates to provide support for first-year and transfer students at West Chester University, including but not limited to:
Giving advice on classes and professors
-Sharing study tips, scheduling, etc.
-Sharing experiences to help you become better students
-Provide resources for future career
-Provide support and guidance as a pre-health student
Requirements:
-Applying mentor should be at least a second-year student
-Mentor should match almost all of the mentee's needs
Ex: Same health care field, same profession, etc.
-Meet and check in with your mentee's every 2 weeks at minimum
-Via text, email, Zoom, etc.
-Discuss academics, life outside of school, etc.
-Maintain a good relationship with your mentees, they are in need of someone reliable to help guide them through this journey
A Sample Fall Schedule:
Week 1: Introductions and getting to know each other
Week 2: Study Tips
Week 3: Scheduling
Week 4: Career (application process, admission exams, resources, etc)
Week 5: Summer Opportunities
Week 6: Advice for Finals
Community Events (depending on interest and availability):
-Hold a virtual social event for everyone to meet and make connections
-Do large group information sessions (all mentors and mentees) on off weeks of Minorities in Medicine
-Q&A with upperclassmen
-Scheduling
-Using MyWCU
-Library resources for research
