What is Panhellenic?

Our Panhellenic community consists of 10 sororities at West Chester University that belong to the National Panhellenic Conference. These chapters are governed by the Panhellenic Council, which is a group of 8 women from different chapters that are passionate about bettering Greek Life at West Chester University.

Is recruitment still taking place this year?

Yes! Recruitment is still taking place, just a bit different than ever before! WCU Panhellenic will ensure to maintain the health and safety of all current and potential new members while still completing a safe recruitment process. When does primary recruitment take place?

Primary recruitment occurs in the beginning of the spring semester.

What is COB?

COB, stands for "Continuous Open Bidding" also known as the informal recruitment process. Chapters that are under total are eligible to participate, therefore not all chapters will participate in informal recruitment this fall.

Can first year students participate in informal recruitment this fall?

First year students are NOT eligible to participate in fall recruitment. In order to participate in recruitment, a PNM must have completed their first semester.

When can I register for primary recruitment?

Registration for primary recruitment will open on October 1, 2020.

What is a PNM?

PNM stands for "Potential New Member" A PNM is any West Chester University female student that is not already a member of a Panhellenic sorority.

What if I'm a legacy?

Each Potential New Member is considered on an individual basis; a legacy is no more obligated to join a particular chapter than the chapter is obligated to offer a bid to her. Recruitment is based on values therefore chapters will be looking to make connections with you based on your core values and seeing if they are compatible with those of the chapter. Panhellenic has no direct policy regarding legacies due to the fact that each chapter has their own rules regarding legacies,

If I go through recruitment do I have to join?

Nope! Recruitment is a chance for you to meet and see into greek life and make the decision if you want to be a part of the Panhellenic community here on the WCU campus. Many women go through recruitment and make lifelong friends regardless of if they choose to join a chapter.

WIll going through recruitment as an upperclassman make a difference?

Values based recruitment here at WCU is implemented in order to give each PNM a fair opportunity regardless of what year you are. Chapters are looking to make connections with you based on who you are and what you can bring to the chapter.

What is a recruitment counselor/ recruitment group?

A recruitment group is a group of Potential New Members that is led by a recruitment counselor. A recruitment counselor is a chapter woman who is devoted to helping PNMs through the recruitment process. These women are chosen to help mentor PNMs and provide information and guidance. Recruitment councilors are equipped and trained to answer any questions you have about recruitment so never hesitate to ask them anything!

How much does it cost to be in a sorority?

Each sorority here on campus has different ways of breaking down their dues to make it more manageable for their members, take a look at the fast fact sheet! Also, keep in mind that many chapters offer financial services for women who struggle to afford chapter dues and fees. All-inclusive dues mean that the chapter dues cover all expenses (membership, activities, PR materials).
